Uncovering the Parkside

Neighborhood: Parkside

Description

In 1908, the Parkside Realty Company began building houses, creating the first neighborhood on the west side of the city. Hear how the Parkside grew from sand dunes to a thriving neighborhood and learn to recognize the original houses that still stand. The Parkside has become an attractive alternative to the hustle and bustle of the downtown area.
Hear a story that spans more than a century, including the profound effect public transportation had on drawing residents to the new neighborhood. On our walk through this often-ignored neighborhood, you’ll learn to identify the three major periods of its development by the different houses you see. If you’re looking for a place to explore in San Francisco devoid of large sidewalk crowds, this is it.
