The answer lies in the rich and fascinating history launched primarily by the California Gold Rush in 1849 and the advent of the cable car. In the course of 25+ years, the population of this city grew from about 500 to almost 200,000. Join us on a walk packed with Victorian era architecture. Explore its history and how the need to build middle class as well as more opulent housing produced such an array of architecture.

Walkers learn cues to recognize the different styles of homes built across 4 decades. Rousing history and entertaining anecdotes bring to life the Victorian Period in San Francisco with its colorful lifestyles. From atop Lafayette Park we see spectacular views of the Bay, Alcatraz Island, and Twin Peaks.
