Sacred Places In San Francisco
Neighborhood: Cathedral Hill (Gough/Geary area)
Description
This is a interfaith walk through a good part of the spiritual history of San Francisco. We go inside the third St. Mary’s Cathedral, the Buddhist Church of San Francisco and Congregation Sherith Israel on California Street. Along the way we will stop at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, First Unitarian Universalist Church and the sarcophagus of Thomas Starr King, Fr. Peter Yorke Way, Trinity St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, St. Francis Xavier Church in Japantown and St. Benedict Parish for the Deaf. We are sad not to include a mosque or Islamic Center on the tour, but there is none within the geographic confines of this walking tour.
Please join us in exploring the history, ideals and drama behind these inspiring places of worship. It’s a transcendent experience no matter what religion you follow.
