Become a City Guide

If you love San Francisco, and are passionate about sharing its history, architecture and lore, consider becoming a volunteer guide with us!

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Enjoy meeting visitors from around the world 
  • Have an interest in public speaking, history and culture of SF
  • Be physically active
  • Can commit to a minimum of 12 tours a year
  • Can use/learn to use scheduling software: Shiftboard

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Acceptance into the New Guide Training program, 
  • Payment of program enrollment fee of $250 (scholarship/“work study” available)
  • Attend all eight training sessions:  
    • Lectures by San Francisco subject matter experts
    • Tips from experienced guides on giving successful tours
    • Starts in February, given on non consecutive Saturdays, 10:00- 3:30
  • Successful first tour within three months after the end of the training
  • Attend six or more City Guides tours, during the training program

APPLICATION PROCESS:

Complete the application form for the next Training Program. We will keep your application on file and contact you toward the end of the year to reconfirm your interest.  Applications from those who respond will be screened. Those that pass will be invited for an in-person interview in January before acceptance into the class.
